Eight Josef Hoffmann "Fledermaus" Dining Chairs for Thonet. Original, 1930s.
Eight Josef Hoffmann "Fledermaus" Dining Chairs for Thonet. Original, 1930s.
Sold as a set of 8. The Iconic Fledermaus (German for "bat") chairs designed by the visionary Austrian architect and designer Josef Hoffmann in 1907 for the Cabaret Fledermaus in Vienna. It is a hallmark of the Vienna Secession and Art Nouveau.
This set of 8 is the highly sought after Thonet production from the 1930s in original condition. There are no tears or repairs to the upholstery, but there are a few spots. The original black lacquer finish has losses throughout, as you can see in the photos. Wear is consistent with age and use. We love the look of these as is, but they would also be a great candidate for restoration. All the frames are structurally sound, and ready to use.
